Join the West Texas Trail Walkers in the Davis Mountains over the Columbus Day weekend. High in the Davis Mountains of West Texas you will find stunning mountain views, miles of hiking trails and a historical frontier fort. Our host lodging is at the Prude Ranch, a historic West Texas cattle ranch offering horseback riding, hiking trails, stargazing and bird/nature watching. With three event walks and the three year round walks, you can accomplish up to six walks over the long weekend.
Friday, October 5
Davis Mountains Preserve
5k, 14k
Easy Option: 5k or 10k, 2C, 3-4 hours,
200-300 f elevation gain, McIvor Center Overlook trails.
Moderate Option: 8k, 3C, 4-6 hours,
1,500 f. elevation gain, Tobe Canyon Trail.
​Difficult Option: Up to 12k, 5D, 6-8 hours, 1800 f. elevation gain, Livermore Summit & Limpia Chute.

Saturday, October 6
Fort Davis & Davis Mountains State Park
5k (1C), 10k or 20k (3C)
​
The 5K is on level ground in the Fort Davis National Historic Site
The 10k also includes Hospital Canyon and ascends to North Ridge.
The 20k route follows the 10k route to
the top of North Ridge, and then enters Davis Mountains State Park for a loop following the old CCC Trail and Skyline Drive.

Sunday, October 7
Historic Prude Ranch
5k, 10k
​
The 10k option (600' elevation gain, 3C) starts at the lodge, goes across the creek, then follows a jeep road
through the hills on the north part of the ranch. The route then follows the road into the hills and loops around a valley, then returns along the road through the ranch entrance, and back to the start.
The 5k route (2C) skips the loop, and just heads out into the pasture and back.

Our Annual Meeting & Dinner will be at the Prude Ranch on Saturday, October 6 at 7:00 pm. The cost is $25 and includes a full buffet featuring Roast Beef.

Registration fees cannot be collected in the National or State Parks. Pre-Registration forms are due by September 15.
Registration is also available Thursday night, October 4 from 5:30pm until 7:00 pm at the Prude Lodge.
